Why Maintenance Matters
Landscape lighting lives outdoors. Mulch gets piled against fixtures. Plants grow over them. Mowers knock them sideways. Lenses get dirty. None of this is a big deal — but left alone for years, a great system slowly goes dim, crooked, and patchy. A simple seasonal routine prevents all of it.
Spring: The Wake-Up (March–April)
Walk the system at night. Note any fixtures that are out, dim, or aimed wrong after winter. Clean every lens — winter grime cuts light output more than you think. Re-aim anything the snow, mulch crews, or wind moved. Check that timers adjusted for longer days (or let the photocell handle it). This is the ideal time for a professional maintenance visit.
Summer: The Growth Check (June–July)
Plants grow fast. Trim anything blocking fixtures — a shrub that grew six inches can swallow a path light. Check fixtures near sprinklers for water spots on lenses. Verify that summer storms have not shifted tree-mounted fixtures. Adjust schedules for late sunsets.
Fall: The Leaf Plan (October–November)
Falling leaves bury low fixtures. Keep mulch and leaves cleared from fixture faces. This is also the time to appreciate the design — fall color under up-lights is spectacular. Check that photocells are not blocked by new growth, and confirm holiday-lighting plans if you use our holiday service.
Winter: The Quiet Months (December–February)
LED systems handle winter fine — cold actually extends LED life. Keep snow from burying low fixtures after big storms. Enjoy the long nights: winter is when you use your lighting the most. If a fixture goes out, note it for the spring visit — or call us and we will come sooner.
The Annual Professional Visit
Once a year, have us out for a full checkup: every fixture tested, every lens cleaned, every aim verified at night, transformer and connections checked, plants trimmed back from fixtures. One visit a year keeps a system looking new indefinitely. Ask about our maintenance plans.
